As a photographer, the two comments I hear most frequently are “I’m not photogenic” and “I hate having my picture taken!”
The best portraits are those that capture the essence of the subject. Some people feel that the only way this can be accomplished is with a 'formal sitting'. However, I believe that the majority of photo subjects thrive far better in an atmosphere where they feel relaxed and unposed. That may mean anything from sitting on a stool talking about what inspires them to standing in front of the camera showing off their new fishing rod. For most, it means anything but having to look directly into the camera. In any case, having one’s photo taken should not have to be a painful procedure.
My intention at Flash Gordon Studio is to create a comfortable and relaxed setting for my subjects in such a way as to capture their essence.
