Five Tips on Hiring a Photographer
- Don’t hesitate to request references. And let the photographer know
if you have been referred.
- Look at the work. If the photographer is not in a formal place of business
or has no work displayed, ask to see a portfolio. Do you like the style/feel?
- How flexible is the photographer in terms of scheduling, location, image packages, etc?
- Do you feel it is a fair price for the product? Are payment options
available? Does the photographer have a reasonable
'satisfaction guaranteed' policy? When you are considering the cost,
keep in mind that, like 4-color printing, the bulk of the expense is in the setup — time
spent shooting and retouching.
- Rapport — This may be the single most important factor for you to consider. Do
you feel at ease with this person? Does the photographer listen and offer any guidance?
If you can’t relax with the photographer, how can you relax for the camera?
* One additional thought: Keep your expectations reasonable.
